FAQs toggle arrow

How is the Girl Scout Cookie Program valuable to girls?
When you buy Girl Scout Cookies, you are creating opportunities for Girl Scouts to learn, grow, and thrive through the largest girl-led entrepreneurial program in the world. From learning how to interact with customers to creating budgets and taking orders, the Girl Scout Cookie Program teaches Girl Scouts invaluable skills that they’ll need to succeed throughout their lives.

The Girl Scout Cookie Program provides opportunities for Girl Scouts to practice and develop their entrepreneurial skills, giving them an edge compared to their non-member peers, according to a study by the Girl Scouts.

Plus, Girl Scout Cookie proceeds stay local! From trekking through the deep woods to traveling the world, you're helping fuel new experiences and adventures for local Girl Scouts all year long.

Girl Scouts build a better future for themselves and the world. And the Girl Scout Cookie Program makes it all possible, thanks to your support.

Who can sell Girl Scout cookies?
Registered Girl Scouts who have submitted a signed Permission Form may sell Girl Scout cookies. Participation in the program is optional.

Where can girls sell cookies?
Girls can sell cookies within our 30-county jurisdiction. There are no restrictions on where girls can sell door-to-door within our council (i.e. no girl or troop has exclusive rights to any town, area, neighborhood, or street). However, requests for cookie booths must be submitted by the Troop Cookie Coordinator and approved by the GSSA Booth Coordinator in the county/area in which the booth would be set up. Different rules may apply on military installations, so please check with the appropriate persons regarding selling at these locations.

When should customers pay?
Customers can pay when cookies are received or online before delivered for girl delivery or shipment.

When should parents pay for their cookies?
Parents should turn in money weekly and by each deadline set by their troop.

Can customers pay with a check and to whom should it written?
Yes, girls and troops can accept checks from customers they know, but should not accept checks from strangers or checks over $25 in value. Parents are encouraged to work with your Troop to be able to accept credit/debit card payments from customers. Checks should be written out to the troop bank account.

Can customers return cookies?
If a customer believes that a box of cookies is in any way unsatisfactory, the box can be returned to the council for a replacement.

Can girls return cookies?
Once a parent/guardian signs for cookies they cannot return them, and the parent is responsible for paying for them. However, troops and parents need to work together to aid in getting any remaining cookies sold to help the troop achieve its overall sales goal.

  • Never enter the home of a stranger.
  • Do not give customers your last name or address.
  • Practice pedestrian safety.
  • Do not carry large amounts of money.
  • Accepting checks is strongly discouraged.

Partnering with Local Businesses toggle arrow
  • Packages/cases of cookies cannot be sold by local businesses. However, packages and cases of cookies can be purchased by local business to be served in conjunction with, or as a part of, specialty dishes.
    • For Example: A chocolate cheesecake served with crumbled Thin Mints used as a topping. Or a cookie-inspired latte served with two whole cookies on the side.

  • Specialty menu items shouldn't be named after cookie varieties but should instead "feature" Girl Scout cookies.
    • For Example: "A latte inspired by Girl Scout Samoas" instead of "A Samoas Latte."

  • Promotional photos can include cookies out of the packaging alongside menu items, but packages and cases cannot be photographed. This helps to avoid the appearance that businesses might be selling packages/cases of Girl Scout cookies.

  • Local businesses should never appear to be in direct partnership with GSUSA. Instead, businesses should be “proudly supporting local Girl Scouts.” All social media tags and hashtags should direct followers to Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama (@girlscoutssa #gssa #girlscoutssouthernalabama)
    • For Example: "Start your week in mint condition with our brand-new delicious chocolate cheesecake featuring REAL Thin Mints from @girlscoutssa troop 1234!"

Cookie Booth Etiquette toggle arrow
  • You are guests when you set up a cookie booth at a business location and should be on your best behavior.
  • Set up booth sale in the designated area. DO NOT block the entrance and follow the rules the business sets.
  • Be identifiable as a Girl Scout and wear our Girl Scout Membership Pin, uniform, or other Girl Scout clothing.
  • Only approach customers as they are leaving the business and have a good attitude, smile, and say thank you even if a customer does not buy.
  • Adults must be present at all times. Don’t allow girls to wander around the location unchaperoned.
  • Don’t ask businesses for change.
  • Have your own table and hang signage on your table, not on the businesses’ property.
  • RESPECT other troops’ sale time. Don’t set up early, and don’t stay after the allotted time. Resolve conflicts peacefully. DO NOT create a scene in front of a business!
  • Do not eat or drink during a booth sale (girls or adults).
  • An adult is responsible for money at all times. An adult watches or assists as the girls handle money. Keep money box in a safe place, especially during loading and unloading of cookies. DO NOT keep large amounts of money in the money box!
  • Make sure you count and write down the exact amount and flavor of boxes before beginning a booth sale. Then count the exact amount and flavor after the booth sale is over.
  • Clean up after booth sale and take ALL trash with you.
  • Park away from the front of the business, and do not take up their good parking spaces.
  • Do not use loud objects/devices to draw attention.

  • Cookie Booth - GSSA arranges booths at prime locations on weekends (Fri-Sun) throughout cookie season. Ask your troop’s Cookie Coordinator about your troop’s booth reservations.
  • Cookie Drive-Thru - Give customers a convenient way to get their cookies by setting up in parking lots and offering a “drive-thru” service. Cookie drive-thrus are another great way to work with your troop. Know a good location? Offer to help your troop’s Cookie Coordinator make the arrangements.
  • Walkabout - Let your community know cookies are back by posting flyers or leaving door hanger notes in your neighborhood to inform them when and how girls are planning to sell.
  • Social Media, Email and Text - Share your girl’s personal link with family, friends, coworkers, and acquaintances! Personal links should never be shared with the news media, i.e. newspaper, radio, etc. or on public sale sites (i.e. Facebook Marketplace)
  • Local Businesses - Find spots where people might be excited to get their favorite cookies, such as coffee shops or restaurants. Connect with local businesses to offer cookies as a dessert option for their customers! NOTE: Business are not allow sell whole boxes/cases of cookies or sell cookies on consignment.
Hometown Heroes toggle arrow

Girl Scouts have a long tradition of making the world a better place and knowing the importance of community service and the value of giving back! During the Cookie Program, this can be achieved through our Hometown Heroes donation program.

Hometown Heroes encourages girls to ask customers/businesses to donate as little as $5 so cookies can find their way to military organizations, first responders, and other local heroes throughout southern Alabama.

What a sweet deal! Encourage customers to buy one box of cookies for themselves and another to give - through the Hometown Heroes program.

GSSA facilitates the delivery of cookies purchased through the Hometown Heroes program with organizations such as active military personnel, local first responders, and other non-profit organizations that are making a difference every day throughout the council.

All Hometown Heroes donations count towards girl rewards and troop proceeds.

Program Credits

Program Credits can be used as a form of payment in our retail locations or can be used for any product or program offered by Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama.

  • Girls who reach the pre-determined level listed on the reward card for the Girl Scout Cookie Program can earn Program Credits.
  • Girls must be in participating troops that have not “opted out” of Program Credits and Rewards.
  • Program Credits are issued at the conclusion of each product program, placed on a non-transferrable card and mailed to recipients.

Program Credits are issued at the conclusion of each product program, placed on a non-transferrable card and mailed to recipients.

Credits can also be transferred to the GSUSA Girl Scout Shop, by one-way transfer.

Learn more on the Program Credits page.

Sister Credits

“Sister Credits” allow households with multiple Girl Scouts to combine the amount of total packages sold and receive higher, accumulated Program Credits.

For example, if $25 Program Credits are awarded to Girl Scouts who sell 1000 packages of cookies, and you have two daughters who sell 500 packages each, their totals can be combined so they can receive the $25 Program Credits, that is being awarded at the 1000 package level. .

If you have multiple daughters selling, please fill out the Sister Credit Request Form (WEB).

Please note that this only applies to GSSA Program Credits and NOT Rewards provided by our baking partner.

Individually Registered Members

Guidelines and IRM Agreement Form toggle arrow

Girls taking part in the Girl Scout Cookie Program as Independently Registered Members (IRMs) participate in much the same way as girls who are members of a Troop.  The main difference is that IRMs work directly with council staff to coordinate their GS Cookie Sale, rather than a Troop volunteer. The council staff member will function as the girl’s Cookie Coordinator – explaining the processes and answering questions, accepting payments, coordinating when and where the girl picks up her inventory, and making sure that the girl receives her individually earned incentives.

Guidelines:

  • Any girl participating in the GSSA Cookie Program must be a currently registered member of Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama.
  • Girls must be easily identifiable as a Girl Scout when selling products. A simple way to achieve this is for her to wear her uniform or other Girl Scout gear, and her Membership Pin.
  • NO orders may be taken and NO sales may be made prior to the published start dates of the program.  Cookies may not be sold at a higher or lower price than what has been set by GSSA.  The approved selling price is $5.00 per package.
  • Links to a Girl Scout’s online storefront may only be posted to personal social media pages, but not in community or marketplace sites.  Adherence to the Product Sales Programs Online Guidance, including signing the Internet Safety Pledge is mandatory.
  • All Cookie inventory must be paid for before it will be released to a Girl Scout’s designated adult.  Any combination of cash, credit, or debit card payments are acceptable forms of payment and may be made via Digital Cookie or through one of GSSA’s retail shops either in-person or over the phone. GSSA will not accept checks as payment for cookies and cautions girls against allowing their customers to make any payments via check. GSSA is not responsible for any customer returned checks.
  • Adherence to the Safety Activity Checkpoints is mandatory.  The Cookie and Product Sales section of the Safety Activity Checkpoints begins on page 76 of the linked document.  Never allow girls to deliver cookies to customers alone!
  • All donations made to girls during the Cookie Program must be applied to the Hometown Heroes Program.

Can IRMs earn Rewards?

  • IRMs receive all individual girl rewards.
  • IRMs will receive membership specific program credits that can be used to purchase a membership for herself, and up to 2 parents/caregivers for the next membership year based on the following:
    • 50 packages = 1 girl membership
    • 100 packages = 1 girl membership and 1 caregiver membership
    • 150 packages = 1 girl membership and 2 caregiver memberships

For Volunteers

Planning Troop Cookie Booths

  • All cookie booths must be approved by GSSA through the eBudde booth schedule.
  • A minimum of two volunteers (at least one of whom is a registered Girl Scout volunteer with the required background check) and one girl should be present at the booth at all times.
  • Select a popular location with a lot of “foot traffic.”
  • Count cookies and cash before the booth starts. Utilize the cookie booth tally sheet to keep an inventory of the cookies sold and money collected at each booth. (booth tally sheet can be found online)
  • Take an adequate supply of the best sellers — at least two or three cases each of Thin Mints, Samoas, and Tagalongs, plus 1 to 2 cases each of the other varieties.
  • Create an inviting table display to attract customers!
  • Make safety a priority at all booths. Girls should stay away from street traffic and be dressed appropriately.
  • Remember, any donations received during a booth must be counted towards Hometown Heroes.
  • Drive-thru kits, cookie costumes, pop-up tents (and more!) are available to rent from both GSSA office locations. Check out the list of Rental Items

Planning Cookie Drive Thrus toggle arrow

Give customers a convenient way to get their cookies by setting up in parking lots and offering a “drive-thru” service. Here are a few things to keep in mind when planning a troop cookie drive thru:

  • Work with local businesses to secure a safe location and collaborate on advertising your drive thru, including on social media.
  • Cones should be used to direct the flow of traffic.
  • Ensure that there are at least two adult volunteers on site.
  • With the help of an adult, girls can take orders, receive payment, and give the cookies to customers without customers ever leaving their vehicles!
  • Drive-thru kits can be checked out from both GSSA office locations. Email CustomerCare@girlscoutssa.org for kit rental inquiries.
  • Just like cookie booths, drive thrus must be entered in to eBudde and approved by GSSA.
  • Drive-thru kits, cookie costumes, pop-up tents (and more!) are available to rent from both GSSA office locations. Check out the list of Rental Items

Remaining Inventory toggle arrow

Sunday, March 8, marks the official END of GSSA Cookie Season 2025!

Troops and Girl Scouts will no longer receive orders through Digital Cookie and there will be no more council-secured booths available after March 8.  HOWEVER, if your Troop has remaining inventory, you may continue to sell cookies until they are all gone (or until they expire on September 1st, whichever comes first).  Girl Scouts can make in-person sales and if your troop has permission from a business, you can host cookie booths. GSSA troops may not sell outside of our 30 county area.

Cookies are $6 (Toffee Tastics are $7) a package, even after March 8. You may not change price for any reason. Final ACH payment to GSSA for all cookies received is still due in full beginning on March 17.

Troop Cookie Finances

Managing Funds and Girl Payments toggle arrow
  • Share your deadlines and expectations for the collection of money with girls/parents. Remind caregivers that they are financially responsible for all cookies signed for and received by their Girl Scout.
  • Protect yourself – ALWAYS issue receipts for cookies you distribute and payments you received. You are required to have a record of all cookies distributed and/or money collected.
  • Money for in-person orders can be collected at the time of delivery or online. Please make sure to verify if customer has paid before delivery.
  • Payments for cookies ordered and shipped through eBudde (including donated cookies) are automatically posted to your troop’s record in  eBudde and will offset money the troop owes to council.
  • The troop should deposit all money collected into their troop account early and often – do NOT hold on to money that you cannot afford to replace. Please keep your deposit receipts to turn into council at the end of the cookie sale.
  • Remember, proceeds become part of the troop’s treasury and are not given to, nor belong to, any individual girl(s).
  • If you have a parent who has not complied with the troop’s first payment deadline – do NOT distribute more cookies to them.
  • Collect money for the cookies in-hand before allowing parents to receive more. Even then, only issue cookies in small amounts requiring payment before they can receive more.
Accepting Payments toggle arrow
  1. Cash - Cash should be secured in a cash box or adult’s waist pouch immediately. Girls should never hold onto cash.

GSSA does not suggest accepting checks, and caregivers and troops that accept checks do so at their own risk. GSSA will not be responsible for returned checks or any fees associated.
  3. Clover Go connects customers’ digital payment directly to GSSA. Only payments received through CloverGo will have processing fees paid for by GSSA.
  4. Digital Cookie - Troops can set up their Troop Site Links which will allow customers to pay for cookies in hand using credit card, PayPal, and Venmo using Digital Cookie.
  5. Other digital payment options (CashApp, Square, etc.) may be connected to troop bank accounts, but the troop will be responsible for paying any associated fees.

Do you know of a business that would like to host GSSA cookie booths this cookie season? Use the following forms:

Community Cookie Booth Invitation Flyer (PDF)

Council Cookie Booth Approval Form (WEB)

Community Cookie Booth Booth Host Form (PDF)
This flyer is meant to be printed and shared with business to fill out manually. Businesses can fill out the paper form and give it back to the staff member or volunteer that is securing that locaiton for council use. The provided information will still need to be entered into the online Council Cookie Booth Approval Form.

These forms are for council-secured booths, which will be available for any GSSA troop to reserve.

GSSA works directly with some businesses to arrange booth reservations. For that reason, we ask that you please DO NOT contact the following business:

  • Lowe's (all locations)
  • Bass Pro Shops (all locations)
  • Walmart (all locations)
  • Sam's Club (all locations)
  • Hobby Lobby (all locations)
  • Rouse's Market (all locations)
  • Piggly Wiggly - Mobile/Daphne
  • Winn Dixie - Mobile/Daphne

Service Units and/or troops may work with local businesses to arrange troop-secured booths for individual troop reservations. Reservations for troop-secured booths are not managed by GSSA. Troop cookie coordinators must enter troop-secured booths in eBudde in order for them to be visible to customers in the Cookie Finder.
