In this hands-on textile workshop, Girl Scouts will explore the
ancient art of batik - a wax-resist dyeing technique practiced for
thousands of years across Asia and beyond. Inspired by mimosa flowers,
a symbol of spring and renewal, participants will design and dye their
own cotton bandana using layers of color and wax.
Students will learn basic batik vocabulary, cultural context, and
hands-on techniques while experimenting with shape, pattern, and
color.
This event is hosted and taught by artists at the Eastern
Shore Center in Fairhope.
Senior Girl Scouts will earn and
receive the Textile Artist badge. Due to space constraints adults will
be unable to participate.
