Community Programs

We believe every girl deserves access to the life-changing benefits of Girl Scouts! So we are changing lives by reaching out to the girls who need us most!

Each year, GSSA provides the Girl Scouting experience to more than 1,500 girls in southern Alabama through our Community Programs in two ways; Camp Sunshine and Girl Scout School Program Series offered during the school day.

Our Community Programs reach girls, mostly from rural areas of our cities and towns. Activities are supported by council resources, and generous donors and volunteers.

The reality is that the population of girls, for whom this leadership experience is essential, is growing. Without the support of grant funding, public and private donations, and our dedicated community volunteers, we would not have the resources necessary to provide Girl Scouts to the girls who need us.

We also hear from our volunteers that this experience has been a rewarding and enriching part of their lives. If you are interested in volunteering in the School Program Series or Camp Sunshine, please send us an email.

Camp Sunshine

Camp Sunshine is a program specifically designed for girls who have limited summertime recreational opportunities. Each year, Camp Sunshine for Girls serves 75 girls, ranging in age from six (who have completed first grade) to 12 years old. Led by an entire volunteer staff, Camp Sunshine is provided without cost to campers and their families. Camp Sunshine includes a day at Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama’s camp property on Lake Martin.

Camp Sunshine is sponsored by Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama in collaboration with other community institutions, organizations, agencies, and volunteers. Camp Sunshine is totally funded through contributions and in-kind gifts. Monetary contributions to Camp Sunshine may be sent to Camp Sunshine, c/o Central Alabama Community Foundation,114 Church St, Montgomery, AL 36104. Transportation for the campers is made possible through the Montgomery County Board of Education.

Camp will run the week of June 5-9 at the Montgomery Academy, with (of course!) our annual visit to Kamp Kiwanis.

Girl Scout School Program Series

Participation in GSSA community programs is free for girls. Girls will participate in monthly meetings during their PE period at school. Girls will earn badges, be invited to events in their area, and can participate in the cookie program. If you have questions or would like to sign your daughter up for this program, please email customercare@girlscoutssa.org, call 800-239-6636, or fill out this form.

For School Principals/Educators

GSSA provides girls in grades K–12 with programming through in-school settings. The program serves more than 2,000 girls per year throughout southern Alabama.

Our comprehensive educational programs address STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), health, community service, financial literacy, relationship and communication skills, arts and the humanities, as well as life skills such as online safety and anti-bullying.  Contact Alicia Schneider for more information on how to get Girl Scouts in your school.
