Wow! That's Engineering! in Huntsville, Alabama - Saturday, September 19, 2009

To encourage girls across the country to become involved with engineering and technology, the Society of Women Engineers has launched a new program:

Wow! That's Engineering!

Experience the creativity and innovation of engineering and technology with fun hands-on activities like:

     • CSI Huntsville

     • Newton's Rocket Car

     • SWE's Next Top Cosmetic Designer

Come meet women engineers, scientists, and technologists and hear firsthand about these exciting careers. This event is open to the first 200 girls to register.

Time: 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Location: University of Alabama in Huntsville

Grade level: Cadettes

Cost: FREE, includes lunch and a patch. Overnight accommodations are available for Friday, September 18, at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center for an additional $25, which includes breakfast.

Registration: Pre-registration is required due to limited space. Registration closes Friday, September 11, 2009, at 5 p.m., no exceptions. There will be seminars for parents, guardians and troop leaders. Those wishing to attend must also register. Participants must complete a Program Registration Form which may be submitted by mail, fax, or email to:

If you earned a 2009 Cookie Sale shop gift certificate or destination money, but have not used it yet, you can put the funds you earned toward joining us for our Heritage Trip to Savannah, Feb. 12-16, 2010.  If you have an $80 shop gift certificate, you can have $175 towards the trip.  If you have a $145 shop gift certificate, you can have $300 towards the trip.  And, if you have destinations money already, this is an option for you, too!  Just contact Chris Shavers (ext. 2202) to let her know that you would like to transfer your funds from the gift certificate or destination to our HeritageTrip account.

Girl Scout troops 9163 and 9165 of Troy visited Savannah July 30 - Aug. 2 for the primary purpose of learning more about the founder of the Girl Scouts and about the Girl Scout program.  An article about their trip was featured in the Troy Messenger.  Read the article on the Troy Messenger's website at 


You can go to Savannah this February with GSSA, and participate in the Girl Scout activities like troops 9163 and 9165.  For more information on the trip, read the Heritage Trip flyer.

Join other girls and leaders from around our council on our "Heritage Trip" to the birthplace of Girl Scouting!  Take advantage of President's Day and Mardi Gras holidays and go on a once in a lifetime trip this Feb. 12-16, 2010.


Savannah is a fascinating city and there are many things to do, see and eat!  Just a few of the activities will be the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace Program, a dolphin cruise, a tour of some reportedly haunted places the city and a visit to Paula Dean's renowned Lady and Sons restaurant.


The "hold your space" deposit of $50 is due August 31, which is half refundable.
