Want to Have a Fundraiser? Here's What You Need to Know Before You Start.

There are as many ways to raise troop funds as there are troops!  And there are a few things to keep in mind before you get started.

First, troops must get permission from the council before asking for financial or in-kind gifts from organizations, businesses, corporations, foundations, or individuals.  This is so the council can make sure there isn't confusion among potential donors, or that donors who have already provided community grants aren't asked repeatedly for more donations by individual troops.

Many businesses, such as Wal-Mart and Target, have generously provided community grants and allowed employee donations. The Council earmarks these funds for girl assistance in the geographic area that the company serves.

The council contact person is Tonya Howard at 800-239-6636, ext. 2802 or thoward@girlscoutssa.org.  She can tell you what you need to know!
