We often think of being bilingual only if we speak Spanish or French or another foreign language, but what about sign language? Introduce your girls to the exciting world of sign by bringing them to this program developed just for Girl Scouts! Girls will learn to sign their name and even the Girl Scout Promise! The program will be lead by an expert signer and will help girls understand what it would be like to live in the world if they were unable to speak or hear. Girls will earn the Beauty of Sign Language patch. This year's program will also focus on the visually impaired.

I would to see if we could get a program like this with AIDB in Montgomery.

We live in Montgomery and my daughter would enjoy this too!

This program is something my older girls would be interested in. Is there a reason it's for Juniors only? Could older girls participate?

Thanks for your comments and questions about the Sign Language Program. Due to the popularity in MObile and Dothan, we are working on making contacts to offer one in the Montgomery area soon.

As far as the age requirements, the next program is geared toward the Junior age group. If there is sufficient interest in offering this to older girls, we could look into putting this on next year's program calendar.

How about Brownies??? I took a similar tour as a Brownie when I was younger, and STILL remember what I learned that day! Can Brownies be included?

The Alabama Institute of the Deaf and Blind offered Brownie Girl Scouts a Sign Language program in January. It was due to the popularity of that program that we asked them to design one for Junior Girl Scouts. Watch next year's Connections and GSSA Weekly next year for the Brownie program.
