What Makes an Event Special?

We have lots of great events listed on our Events & Programs calendar. On this page, we provide more in-depth information about upcoming special events. What makes an event special? These are events which honor the spirit of the Girl Scout Movement or which have a major impact on our Council.

We hope that you will be able to participate! Supporting special events as an attendee, volunteer or sponsor helps us grow Girl Scouting in our community.

Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama reaches more than 9,000 girl members and 3,500 adult members in 30 counties in southern Alabama. Our council spends more than $276 per girl to provide summer camp, membership fees and troop programs, materials and supplies and support staff to girls who could otherwise not afford Girl Scouting. Through fundraising events like the Women of Distinction Awards, we are able to provide quality programs and support to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

2012 Annual Women of Distinction Awards Luncheon

On March 15, 2012, Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama continued the tradition of honoring women leaders who made numerous contributions to our community over the years.  Nearly 300 guests, including former and current Girl Scouts as well as community leaders, gathered to celebrate our 2012 honoree, Liz Sutton and heard an inspiring message from this year’s guest speaker, Robin Meade, anchor HLN’s “Morning Express with Robin Meade”.  Thank you to all of our guests and sponsors for your support and dedication to building girls of courage, confidence and character!
