Be a part of the Thin  Mint Sprint!
Volunteer opportunities still exist for older girls and adults to help make this event a success! Volunteers are needed to pass out water, cheer runners on, help with the Health Expo, and provide an extra hand wherever needed. If you are willing and able to serve, please contact Mary Anne Brutkiewicz (800-239-6636, ext. 1202) by Thursday, February 24.

Editor's Note: Mary Anne "ain't too proud to beg," so if you need some cajoling, just give her a call!
popes_tms_web.jpgWe're so excited about the 3rd annual Thin Mint Sprint, and things just keep getting even better!

We've already got:
  • the new patch program (the deadline to register for the patch program is tomorrow, February 18!)
  • you can recycle old tennis shoes, thanks to Baldwin Bone and Joint, P.C.
  • Azalea City DJ's Step Daddy will be there to entertain
  • troops will be leading crafts, selling cookies, and being Thin Mint cheerleaders
  • various health screenings and safety activities led by city personnel
  • The troop with the most race entries will win a troop award
And now, to top it all off, the Museum of Art is having a family friendly Mardi Gras event.  In case you're not familiar with the area, the museum is in Langan Park, where the Thin Mint Sprint is held.  So, after the health expo/awards ceremony is over, you can walk on over to even more (and FREE) fun!

The event will include Mardi Gras inspired art activities, ballroom dancing, music, refreshments, Mardi Gras inspired short plays, and more.

This is really shaping up to be a great day at Langan Park.  Will you be there?

Give new life to old shoes!  Bring your gently-used athletic shoes to the Thin Mint Sprint on February 26.  Just tie the laces together to keep the shoes in pairs and drop them off -- they will land on the feet of someone who really needs them.

As an added bonus, Girl Scouts of South Alabama may receive a cash prize if we are among the top three schools or groups who donate the most shoes.

The Many More Miles Campaign is a community project hosted by Baldwin Bone & Joint, P.C., and collects shoes for the homeless outreach programs of Wings of Life and Discovery Ministries.

We need a troop to help at the water stop at the Thin Mint Sprint on february 26.

The girls will fill up water cups and hand them to runners on the course, and cheer them on...the runners really appreciate it!

They would need to be at Langan Park at 7 am, and would be done by 9:30 and can enjoy the fun at the Health Expo (arts & crafts, jumpies, etc.).

To volunteer, please contact Mary Anne at extension 1202 or mbrutkiewicz@girlscoutssa.org and include how many girls and adults, as well as their names.
thin_mint_image.gifWe're so excited about the new Thin Mint Sprint patch program, we uploaded it to the website as quick as we could.  In the process, we may have forgotten to include the nifty training log for the Marathon and 5K patches. (Whoopsies!)  Thankfully, we have great volunteers to keep us straight.  Here's the Thin Mint Sprint patch program info... with the training log included this time.

Well, the weather could have been better for the Thin Mint Sprint ... OK, it could have been a LOT better!  Although it was cold and rainy, we still had a great turnout and a great time.  We were so thankful for all the people who braved the chilly weather to support Girl Scouts and a healthy lifestyle.

We had over 300 runners registered for the 5K and more than 100 registered for the fun run. The kids had a great time at all the activities at the Healthy Family Fun Fair following the Sprint.

There are commemorative 2010 Thin Mint Sprint T-shirts for sale in the Mobile council shop.  There aren't many left and are selling for $5 per shirt -- what a steal!

Check out our photo album and video from the event.

Also, check out the overall race results and the award winners. Congratulations to all the participants and we appreciate your support of Girl Scouting!

The Thin Mint Sprint is almost here, and we keep getting exciting news that will make this event even more special!  Radio personality Mason Lafayette, from Lite Mix 99.9, will be there before the race starts to get everyone pumped up, and Senator Vivian Davis Figures will be speaking at the post-race party about healthy living!

NEW this year will also be prizes for the fun run!  We want kids to be motivated to stay fit and run, so there will be prizes for the top 3 girl winners and top 3 boy winners.  Certificates will be given in age brackets: 3 years and under, 4 - 6, 7 - 9 and 10 - 12 year olds.

Last year we had Thin Mints for race participants, and this year we'll have Thin Mints with MILK - thanks to Dairy Fresh!  How fun is that? Hope to see you there on Saturday!

Several volunteers unexpectedly cannot assist us Saturday morning.  The volunteer work is fun, and you're done early.  So, if you'd like to help us out, call Molly Smart at 251.344.3330, ext. 1402.

We had high hopes for our first ever Thin Mint Sprint and Healthy Family Fun Fair. But frankly, we were a teensy bit nervous--it was a big event and the first of its kind...and the weather looked a bit iffy...so we were extra gratified and excited by the wonderful turnout!

We had over 300 runners registered for the 5K and more than 100 registered for the fun run.  Kids had a great time at all the activities at the Healthy Family Fun Fair following the Sprint.  There are commemorative 1st Annual Thin Mint Sprint cups for sale in the Mobile council shop.  Short cups are $4 and tall cups are $5.

Here's a link to a slide show showing all the fun!

Also, check out the overall race results and the award winners. Congratulations to all the participants and we appreciate your support of Girl Scouting!
