The Murray House on Government Street has a volunteer need from local Scout troops. They are collecting hygiene items to give to their male and female residents for prizes. Examples of hygiene items they need are: toothpaste and toothbrushes, Kleenex, soap, shampoo, hairbrushes, and combs. They also have a need for new blankets, towels, and pillows, if anyone wants to donate those. If your troop can help out, please bring items to the council office by March 15. Golf is a wonderful lifelong sport for girls and Alabama has some of the best courses in the world! Mobile Girls Golf Club gives girls an affordable opportunity to learn and practice golf. Contact Michael@michaelbrisbanegolf.com for more information. 

The MLK Day of Service, January 16, 2012, will mark the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Federal Holiday. This milestone is a perfect opportunity for Americans to honor Dr. King's legacy through service. The MLK Day of Service empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions to social problems, and moves us closer to Dr. King's vision of a beloved community.

Shifts begin Monday, December 19, starting at 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., and shifts continue every day until Christmas Eve from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

We can use 2-3 volunteers per shift.  Minimum age to volunteer with an adult is 10.  Minimum age to volunteer without an adult is 16.  Wear comfortable shoes and feel free to show your holiday spirit!

Students, you can get credit for community service hours.  Please join us to support a great cause and spread holiday cheer at the Eastdale Mall in Montgomery, AL!

These events, while not official GSSA programs, are great opportunities for our girls:

The Theatre Department at USA has invited Girl Scouts to a special showing of " Honk", a children's musical Saturday, November 12 at 9:30 a.m.  Girl Scouts will receive a special rate of $5 ($5 off). Interested troops should call the box office at  (251) 460-6306.

2.      The Harlem Globetrotters will bring their 2012 World Tour to the Dothan Civic Center Wednesday, February 27 at 7:00 p.m. Girl Scouts and their families can take advantage of a special rate. If you are interested, contact Jasper Joyce: joyce@harlemglobetrotters.com /(800) 641-4667 (118). 

Outward Bound is offering a 2-day training on Wilderness First Aid, on December 1st and 2nd at Weeks Bay Preserve  The fee for the course will be waived for Girl Scout volunteers who are interested in acquiring skills that will be vital both in the wilderness and during a natural disaster. Troop 8302 is sponsoring A TEEN NIGHT at PETE'S PARTY PALACE in Mobile, AL. on Friday, November 25, for girls in 5^th-9^th grades.

There will be a DJ, X-Box Tournaments, and Concessions. The time will be 8pm to midnight!

Come support our troop and help us spread the word.  We are raising money to celebrate Girl Scouts 100^th Anniversary in Washington D.C. in June. 

This would be a great opportunity to get your holiday shopping done.

Moving to a new town is unsettling enough; imagine how stressful it would be to move to a different country, leaving almost everything you own behind because you are afraid for your safety?

Catholic Social Services is seeking donations for their Refugee Resettlement Program. Refugees are people who come to the United States seeking freedom from persecution. They are admitted to the U.S. by the Department of State and sponsored by various non-profit organizations, such as Catholic  Social Services. The goal is to make the refugee families feel welcome and to ease their transition into this country.

One of the needs this time of year is gift cards if a troop would like to host a drive. Other items that are always needed are:

Alarm clocks, blankets, pillows, tea pots, pots, pans, cleaning supplies, waste baskets, deodorant, shampoo.

Tr   Keep Mobile Beautiful provides Recycling Field Trips for Girl Scouts at the Mobile Recycling Center on Government Blvd. Girls can tie this field trip into the It's Your Planet, Love It! Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex Presents: Salute to Girl Scout Weekend Fall 2011!

Girl Scouts from around the country are invited to participate in the annual "Salute to Girl Scouts" on November 5, 2011 at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, a day filled with adventure and activities designed to inspire the next generation of space explorers.   

Participants will have full access to Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex shows and exhibits, take a tour of Kennedy Space Center, enjoy a 3D IMAX space film, tour the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame, attend a private, interactive briefing about NASA's latest mission and meet an astronaut with a special message to scouts.
 
Admission to "Salute to Girl Scouts Weekend" is $45.00 per person plus tax and includes activities from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and lunch plus a second day of admission to explore Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.  Click here for registration flyer.
