Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama has two scholarship programs available to graduating senior Girl Scouts.  

Are you a Girl Scout, age 13 to 15?  Are you interested in the environment, ecology, wildlife, biology and natural history?  This Destination is for you!

We have a wonderful opportunity for girls to receive scholarship funding for the Wyoming's Wildlife Wonders destination, July 24-30, 2011. A scholarship of $600 will cover 3/4s of the event fee of $898 for girls ages 13-15. The girls will need to cover travel expenses to get to and from the event. Wyoming's Wildlife Wonders is a travel opportunity (destination) where Girl Scouts ages 13-15 travel to Wyoming to study the ecology and natural history of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Girl Scouts hike, canoe, and trek through the Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. Teens observe wildlife, explore careers that promote sustainable ecosystems, and take action by developing an environmental project to implement back home in their community. Girls across the nation will come together for a week at the Teton Science Schools to learn in an amazing environment about nature, each other and themselves.

Attention high school seniors! Planning on going to college? Your volunteer work could help you get a scholarship. The Junior League of Mobile is now accepting applications for their Young Woman Leadership Scholarship. This scholarship is available to young women in their senior year of high school and is available to one young woman in Mobile County and one in Baldwin County. The two scholarship recipients will be awarded a $1500 scholarship each.

 

Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to volunteering and community improvement, innovative and creative actions that reach out to and motivate others, commitment to continued education, and at least one year volunteer experience in addition to school related service requirements. This scholarship sounds perfect for a Girl Scout, who fulfills all of these requirements!

Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama offers two college scholarships and a lifetime membership scholarship to deserving girls

The deadline for all scholarships is March 1.

 

Named in honor of a past Girl Scouts of the Deep South board president, the Loucretia Hollingsworth Scholarship of $1,000 is awarded each year to a graduating senior Girl Scout who will be enrolled full time at an accredited college or university.

The aim of this scholarship is to reach the girl who may or may not have outstanding academic achievements, but has the ability to develop in college and who has demonstrated a commitment to helping other people.

Selections will be based first and foremost on the applicant's contribution to society through service and her desire to continue this contribution through a career of helping others.

 

The Ellen Autrey Anderson Girl Scout Award is named in honor of a past Chief Executive Officer of Girl Scouts of South Central Alabama, and donated by her family. This one-time scholarship of $500 is awarded annually to a graduating Senior Girl Scout who best meets the scholarship criteria. Applicants must be enrolled full time in an accredited college or university, have earned the Girl Scout Gold Award through Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama, and have a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale.

 

The Blanchard Hinton Lifetime Membership Scholarship is awarded yearly to a deserving Girl Scout who plans to continue to be active as an adult volunteer. An essay is required.

Does the idea of going somewhere new, doing something different and meeting people from everywhere you can imagine sound like fun? If so, a Girl Scout destination will allow you to do just that! And now GSSA is offering you the chance to receive a scholarship to help make your travel dreams a reality.

 

We will award scholarships to two Girl Scouts to attend GSUSA Destinations in 2010. Thanks to the Barbara Gilewicz Travel Scholarship Fund and private donors, we are able to offer one $1,000 and one $500 scholarship to deserving Girl Scouts. Applicants must be 14-18 years old and registered for the 2009-2010 membership year. A volunteer committee will award scholarships based on a girl's desire and suitability as determined by her application package. Completed applications, references, and essays must be submitted to Mary Anne Brutkiewicz in the Mobile Service Center by November 9, 2009, for consideration. Those awarded will be notified within 10 days. Assignment of scholarships is contingent upon receipt of sufficient quality applications and acceptance to the destination.

The Girls Going Places^® Entrepreneurship Award Program is Guardian's annual initiative designed to reward the enterprising spirits of girls ages 12 to 18. Guardian awards prizes to 15 girls who demonstrate budding entrepreneurship; are taking the first steps toward financial independence; and make a difference in their schools and communities. Prizes totaling $30,000 are granted to three top winners and 12 finalists each year, to further their entrepreneurial pursuits or save for college.
