Through a special partnership with the Navistar LPGA Classic, girls and adults from across the council are invited to volunteer at this prestigious golf tournament, which attracts well-known female golfers from around the country to Prattville's Robert Trent Jones Golf Course.  Girl volunteers, ages 11-17, are needed for Saturday, Sept. 17, and Sunday, Sept. 18, to serve as standard bearers.  Each girl will be paired with a golfer, carry their insignia and will walk the course with them that day.  Since the golfers tee off at different times, beginning around 7 a.m., we will assign each girl to a specific tee time.  Please note that girls are required to be there about an hour prior to the tee off time and will be on the golf course for several hours.
 
Adults are also asked to volunteer.  Some may serve as standard bearers, while others will assist in other duties for Navistar, as assigned.
 
Prior to the event, girls and adults will be asked to attend (in person or via conference call) an hour-long training sometime in August prior to the event.  
 
The price to attend this event is $12 per person. Girl and adult volunteers will receive a Navistar  LPGA Dri-fit T-shirt, special 100th anniversary Girl Scout cap (to be worn at the event...we want them to know you're a Girl Scout!), Navistar baseball cap or visor, five tickets for use during any day of the event, light refreshments while they are working and a commemorative patch.
 
We are only allowed to have 50-60 girls/adults volunteer on Saturday and only 20-30 on Sunday, so be sure to register soon!

LPGA invites Girl Scouts to meet and greet some of the country's best women's golfers. Girls will participate in a putting clinic and spend time with the lady golfers, learning about the sport of Golf and fulfilling your dreams.

Join older girls from Southern Alabama and Florida Panhandle for Silver and Gold training under the new Journeys standards. Girls must bring leader or advisor and adults are limited to the suggested girl/adult ratio. Girls will do training for awards, leadership development, team building and fun activities.

Due to popular demand, Woody has added a special session for Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors at Camp Scoutshire Woods!  July 4 - 9 girls will enjoy a full week of traditional camp fun with games and songs. There will also be fireworks and a picnic.  Camp staff will bring back the camp favorite "Win it in a minute" game.

Lawyers have many options over the course of their careers. Besides private practice, they can become a prosecutor, government counsel, corporate in-house counsel, judge, arbitrator, law professor or politician. Legal training is good preparation for many non-legal jobs, such as corporate executive, government administrator, investment banker, entrepreneur or journalist.

 

Girl Scouts in middle school and high school can explore what it takes to be a lawyer with a young, female attorney.  A new series pathway focused on legal careers is starting, and we want you to shape this group.  June 22, you'll meet to decide:

What activities do you want to do?  How often do you want to meet?  How do you want to communicate?  What do you want to call yourselves?  Do you want to work on IP's?  Do you want to go on trips?

Introducing the Newest Journey Series

  

Available in December 2010, the "It's Your Story--Tell It!" leadership journey series uses a storytelling theme in a fun way for you to better understand yourself and your potential.

 

On this journey, an emphasis is also placed on media literacy and creative expression. All along the journey, you'll have opportunities to engage in a variety of arts, including performing, visual, culinary, and new media, to tell your story and take action to make the world a better place.

You talked, and we listened!  We've received several requests for a mini-destination for which girls can use their cookie money.  Here's the perfect opportunity.   Spend the weekend in Chattanooga, TN, seeing many local attractions. 

After enjoying a moonlight cruise Friday evening, we will sleep at the pier of the Chattanooga Riverboat Company.  Saturday will be spent visiting the aquarium and other local attractions.  Saturday night, we will spend the night at the Creative Discovery Museum.  Sunday morning will be an underground adventure at Raccoon Mountain - caving for the adventurous and a walking cavern tour for everyone else.   Price includes sleepover lodging, meals (Friday dinner -- Sunday breakfast), an event patch, entrance fees and caving equipment rental.  Transportation is not included.

Minimum: 50; Maximum: 100

Registration deadline: $25 non-refundable deposit per person due to the Mobile Service Center May 1, 2010.

The $25 non-refundable deposit is required for all participants, including girls using cookie money.

Girl Scouts in grades 6-12 are invited to an overnight event with the Mariners.  Girls will spend an evening of fun and games with pizza and movies. 

 

GSSA's Mariner Crew Program, an active marine program, includes self-rescue and other water skills, sailing, emergency preparedness and eco-action.  Mariners participate in sailing and disaster training. They also are taking a sailing trip from Key West to the Dry Tortugas in 2010!

Calling all Girl Scouts ages 12 and up!  Pack up your gear and hit the road with the Gulf Pines council to Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham. This trip will let you fine tune your primitive camping, day hiking and nature exploration skills.

 

We will meet at Camp Iti Kana in Mississippi on Friday, cook dinner, check gear, and get to know each other. Then we will head to Oak Mountain State Park Saturday morning where we will set up camp and plan our day hikes for Sunday and Monday.

 

Register early!  This trip is limited to 20 participants!

Older girls are invited to a purple filled afternoon on the USA campus. You'll learn about opportunities especially for you, while enjoying music and activities.  There will be door prizes, step dancing, eco-friendly facials, and so much more!  There will also be information on cool travel opportunities, scholarships, college info, camp opportunities, etc.

 

There will be an adult session about older girl activities for parents and leaders in a separate room in the student center, so all of you girls don't have to worry about your leaders hangin' out with you!
