Destinations: April 2010 Archives

Girl Scouts of NE Kansas & NW Missouri's destination, Juliette Low Camp, has openings for camp counselors.   The girls must be at least 15 years old.   This is a great opportunity for any girl who wants a career in health care.   The cost of the Destination is $500.  The camp is for girls with physical disabilities and the counselors give the girls an opportunity for a resident camp experience.    As a selected counselor, the girls will train with experienced, special education professionals prior to the start of camp.  During each camp session, they will provide the campers with the opportunity to enjoy swimming, songs, games, and campfires.  They will also assist/take care of the campers dressing, feeding, personal care, and transportation around the camp (wheelchair power!). 

Counselors need to arrive July 6 and depart for home on July 31.   There are openings for 20 counselors.  The deadline for application is June 10, 2010.

If you answered yes to any of the above then you may be interested in joining girls from across the nation for Guatemala's Historical and Natural Treasures.

During this trip you will explore the diverse terrain of this tropical paradise on an adventure to Guatemala's colonial cities, picturesque lakes, and ancient Mayan ruins. Guatemala is a richly diverse cultural center situated in the heart of Central America. Guatemala is world renowned for its colonial cities, impressive Mayan Ruins, beautiful tropical forests, and indigenous peoples. You and thirteen other girls will venture to Pacaya Volcano National Park, hike the summit to learn about geology, and traverse the jungle-shrouded ruins at Tikal discovering the ancient and present day Maya. There is so much to experience in this historically rich country of Central America. This trip is chaperoned by two council staff members of Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina who are trained to work with high school girls. The trip is outfitted and organized by Holbrook Travel. A local tour guide will be with the group 24 hours a day once in Guatemala.

Cost: $2,460 (cost is all inclusive from Miami, with mandatory travel/trip cancellation insurance, except $30 Guatemala departure tax and gratuities for guide and driver)
