patch-global-action.jpg

Girls Take Action!  We can learn, in a fun  way, about global issues facing us and our communities.

When we complete the activities for this patch, we will join in with 10 million other Girl Scouts and Girl Guides who together are advocating for themselves and others, both locally and globally.

Together, by taking small steps, we can make big change!

Earning requirements for this patch can be found at www.girlscouts.org/who_we_are/global/global_action_patch/ <http://www.girlscouts.org/who_we_are/global/global_action_patch/> .

Ever dreamed of experiencing the fun and adventure of Northern California? Then join us for California Dreamin', a seven-day international camporee that will give memories of a lifetime to hundreds of teen girls from across the world July 29-August 5, 2012 as part of Girl Scouts of Northern California's 100th Anniversary celebration. Girl Scouts and Girl Guides ages 13-18 and their adult leaders will experience California at its finest - choosing from river rafting, deep sea fishing, workshops, and much more while camping at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, California, just a few miles from the San Francisco Bay!

Early bird registration is now open through December 31, 2010, at a reduced rate of $325 per person. Each group must bring two adult leaders, and a $100 per person deposit is due at registration. Hurry and register - space is limited at the fairgrounds! To register or for more information, visit cadreamincamporee.org.

The winner will receive a $25 GSSA credit that can be used for program events or in the council store!

Entries due by January 14, 2011.

Get all of the contest information on our Programs and Events calendar.  Good luck!

WhosthatGirl.jpgExcellent news! The Girl Scout Research Institute is celebrating its 10th Anniversary tomorrow, November, 4, with an exciting event "Who's that Girl? Self-Image in the 21st Century". This event will take place in New York City but we can join via Ustream at 5:30 p.m. central standard time when the panel begins. At the event, GSUSA will be releasing new findings from a new study on girls and social media, including this refreshing statistic:

"92 percent of girls would give up all of their social networking friends if it meant keeping their best friend." - Girl Scout Research Institute, 2010

On the Ustream, guests will be hearing from a panel of adult and girl culture experts including Emme, supermodel and founder, Body Image Council, Maya Enista, CEO, mobilize.org, Gabi Gregg, MTV Twitter Jockey, Peggy Orenstein, Contributing Writer, New York Times Magazine; and Janie Victoria Ward, professor of education, Simmons College. We will also hear from a panel of girls from the New York City area.
